I had opened the tube of toothpaste before I read on the packaging that it was produced in China. Unwilling to expose my dogs to any possible contamination, I immediately threw the product away.

must be good my dog wants to eat it, however not easy to brush a puppy's teeth

My dogs don't like having their teeth cleaned but they tolerate it and this toothpaste seems to work just fine.

I sure like the price of this toothpaste, and the free shipping. We usually buy the more expensive brand. But five animals who normally love tooth brushing time aren't so sure about this stuff. The cats won't touch it (they usually lick a little out of the tube) and the dogs allow me to brush their teeth, but not with the enthusiasm they usually do. Plus, the product itself has kind of an odd consistency. It tends to fall outof their mouths in globs at times. I think I might buy this again, but also buy the more expensive brand and switch off so I can save some money but don't lose my pets' interest in the meantime.

We have a 10 year old rescue Greyhound who needs her teeth brushed at least twice weekly. Have tried other brands and this is by far the best. Good value.

My "All American' has Athritis and can't handle the cold. Living in Florida, thats perfectly fine, until winter time, so these really help him live up to his ususal terrorist ways all year round.

I have a 9-year old Corgi who has been on this product for about a year now. Without it, she is a bit gimpy in the rear end. With it, she gets around with enthusiasm. The price at Amazon is better than I can find anywhere else and I highly recommend this for senior dogs, gimpy or not.

Nutri-Vet Hip & Joint Peanut Butter Large Dog Biscuits Nutri-Vet Hip & Joint Peanut Butter Large Dog Biscuits

My Golden Retriever is 10 years old now, and she moves a bit slower (especially with 2 titanium hips that she received at 6 months). She's still incredibly active, but isn't as quick out of the gates as she used to be. I figured that I would start her on some hip and joint meds, so I bought some pills to put in her food. Then I found these, which she loves. She's definitely not finicky, but she won't eat just anything either, and she gobbles these up. I've given her 2 a day for about 3+ months, and I've found 3 broken biscuits. Living in Colorado, nothing really goes stale out here, so I can't speak to that. She loves them, and they seem to be working.

My dog doesn't really like these very much. (...and really...what is the point of it coming in biscuit form if you practically have to force-feed it to your dog?...) I am also not really confident it does what it says. There may be some issue with my dog absorbing the nutrients from these. I switched to a different product after a few months of him not liking these and I noticed very rapid improvement in his joints and mobility within a few weeks! Obviously, this is not anything I would buy again...ever.

I began giving my older golden retriever these biscuits after she had a lot of difficulty getting up after a walk-what a big improvement. She has a lot more mobility.

With 7 large Greyhounds of my own plus fostering new Greys from the track all the time, this house has a minimum of 10 Greys in it at all times. I own and foster only special needs Greyhounds (never a shortage of them), mostly due to broken legs and hocks at the track. I make glucosamine a daily staple in their morning meals (with my Vet's approval of course), regardless of their ages. I've tried countless products, some they liked and some they turned their snouts up in rebellion. Even my 3 older ones who have about 7 teeth total among them like these. (For my toothless wonders, I crush them before adding to their bowl-break into pieces in my hands then use a small 'smack and chop' chopper on the cutting board and scoop the small pieces into individual bowls). My other 4 who still have most of their teeth wait for me at the top of the cellar stairs while I'm filling their bowls and placing one of these peanut butter biscuits on the top of each. While 1-2 try to distract me as I'm hauling all these bowls up the stairs, the others bob and weave in attempts to steal the treats out of the bowls as I near the top of the steps. Have to admit defeat on occasion when I'm not paying attention :( In any event, haven't met a Greyhound yet who does not love these. Not only that, I have seen remarkable improvement in agility, desire to play and romp, renewed interest in toys, consistent improvement in ease in pouncing on the beds, serious athleticism in swiping the tomatoes from my topsy turvys in the yard, even stealing a 3 lb pumpkin off the back step to munch on behind the tree in the back yard. The younger ones have resumed 'running laps' around the yard while the older ones (2 are 11, 9, 8, 5 and 2 are 4) seem younger and instigate play more often than before. They are energetic, not as stiff after a nap or nighttime, want to do more, play more, walk more/further and, while it may be my imagination, the older ones seem to be eating better. (They had gotten to a point where sometimes they would eat, sometimes not, sometimes just nibble a few bites and walk away). All in all, they like this product and I am thrilled already with the positive changes I see in my 'kids' who are always with me and the fosters who arrive in rough shape but leave for happy, responsible homes upon adoption. I dislike pumping meds into any pet when something else will help. I'm sticking with this product. It works for me and mine. I wouldn't purchase 7-10 6 lb bags of this product at a time if my pups weren't exhibiting such remarkable improvements. Their quality of life has definitely improved. Packaging says to allow 4-6 weeks for best results but it took less than 3 weeks for me to begin seeing significant changes in all of my guys and gals. Can't wait to see what 6+ weeks of using this product will produce! Each ALL NATURAL biscuit contains 500 mg glucosamine and is a substantial 'treat'. Biscuits are approx. 3-4" long and perhaps .75" high and quite crunchy to promote strong teeth and healthy gums. They are a bit difficult to break other than in halves. After that initial break, they are too tough to break into smaller chunks, thus the need for my abovementioned 'chopper'. Each bag purchased to date has arrived in excellent condition. Out of 14 6-lb bags to date (2 separate orders), only 2 biscuits were broken in half; nothing was crushed or broken into small chunks. Very little residue at bottom of resealable bags. Unfortunately, I did count the biscuits in the first 2 (original order) bags to determine whether or not I would stick with this product pricewise, but I've forgotten now what that count was so I cannot share that at this time. And because I'm back to order more, if I remember, I'll update this review when I count them again. Directions for use: 1/2 wafer/biscuit per 40 lbs body weight twice daily. PLEASE NOTE: Some (not all) of the statements on the reverse of package - thought I'd share before you buy: - Administer during or after the animal has eaten to reduce potential incidence of gastrointestinal upset. - An exam from a vet is recommended prior to using this product. - Keep out of reach of children. In case of accidental overdose, contact a health professional immediately. - Safe use in pregnant animals or animals intended for breeding is not recommended. - Consult with your vet before using this product in animals with clotting disorders, being treated with anticoagulant medications, diabetes, or any metabolic disorder causing hyperglycemia, history of urinary tract stones, and known allergies to shellfish.

One problem I've experienced in caring for an older dog is finding a glucosamine supplement that our 65 lb., 15 year old Akita/Chow-chow mix would really like eating. Finding one that our dog, Kuma-chan liked eating was a challenge. We've tried tablets in her food and she would smell it mixed in and not eat until the next day. Other biscuit type supplements were left uneaten. Sometimes the gel capsule would be left at the bottom of her dinner bowl. As soon as the Nutri-Vet Hip & Joint Peanut Butter Large Dog Biscuits arrived, I offered a biscuit to Kuma. She took it, wagged her tail and came back for another one! Now, she knows that she only gets one every morning before her chicken jerky treats! It's great when you don't have to force feed your best friend! What a relief to see Kuma walk with minimal stiffness or pain in her hips after a couple of weeks.

Chunky Chews® 8 Chunky Chews® 8" Beef Braided Rawhide Ring for Large Dogs

Reviews

This thing is HUGE and my Great Dane absolutely adores it! I purchased 2 chews, a knotted one and this braided one, and I must say that I am very happy. That's saying a lot because I usually hate rawhide -- my dog normally devours most rawhide treats in about 15 minutes and during that time manages to tear off at least one soft wet chunk big enough to choke on and scare the daylights out of me. These are designed in a way those scary moments haven't happened! These chews are truly CHUNKY - the ring is easily over 8 inches diameter and the braid is about 3 inches across, the rawhide is super thick and the whole thing is HEAVY. The braided design makes it so he cannot pull large pieces off to choke on and he has to work very hard to get even small pieces off. Normally if he has to work hard at a chew he will just give up - but not these! He carries it all over the house, plays with it by throwing it in the air (which is very loud on my wood floor), and then settles down for some chewing time -- this chew keeps him entertained for a good hour or more. In this hour of chewing he does NOT devour the rawhide like many other brands we have tried, he just barely manages to get a small 4 inch section gnawed soft then gets tired and takes a nap. In 3 days he has not gotten bored with this routine and we still have 98% of the original chew left! To me - that is a cost effective chew toy! He seems to prefer this braided ring over the knotted type - maybe because the circle design enables him to hold the chew firmly with his paws (see picture) or maybe because of the tasty beef basting. Even more impressive is that the basting looks to be thoroughly embedded into and throughout all of the rawhide not just brushed on the outside; it does not come off on his white legs or my beige carpet - how WONDERFUL is that?! I feel it is important to note that these are all-natural rawhide chews MADE IN THE USA (Illinois). They do say "a product of Brazil" on the outside of the package because they are made from free range, natural grass-fed BRAZILIAN beef hides (without chemicals, preservatives or bleaches). They are also antibiotic, hormone and preservative free. All of their rawhide products are lot-coded for traceability back to the cow. They are a PetAg product (a USA company founded in 1930) which is a division of Borden (another USA company). So in closing: They might seem a bit expensive at first glance, but I have discovered they are high quality, long lasting, and dog entertaining... that to me is worth every penny and if my dog ever makes it through the 2 chews I we already have -- I will happily purchase more!

The Phantom [Blu-ray] The Phantom [Blu-ray]

This is a great family action movie. Very appropriate for young children. Lots of action.

I've thought The Phantom was one cool comic strip hero since I was a kid. I never felt like I really got enough of the character, and I was delighted when a feature film was made. I wasn't disappointed. The story is exciting, and acting performances are rich. Treat Williams drips charisma and evil. An early look at Catherine Zeta Jones is eye catching, and she gives a solid performance as the leader of an all woman mercenary team. Billy Zane hits a home run as the Phantom. First, he looks good in the suit. That's always a must for a costumed hero film. Second, he gives a confident performance of a heroic character, and delivers his clever "humor" lines with just the right amount of wry charm. Zane (and/or stunt men) give the character a sense of strength and grace that are demanded to make the Phantom work on screen. The cinematography is beautiful to behold, especially jungle and water scenes. They draw you right into the screen. As a cap off, I also enjoyed the score, and the main theme is catchy, which I also like to have in a comic hero movie. (That was one area where I thought the X-Men movies failed. Nothing memorable at all in the score ... they should have used the theme from the cartoon show. LOL) The movie is a feast for the senses, and for fans of the Comic strip. My only regret was that it did not do well enough at the box office to spawn a string of sequels. We also enjoyed the Phantom serial from the OLD movie days. Of course its campy but its fun and a lot of hours of entertainment for the price: The Phantom - Serial

This is a great movie, it's raw, and I love that. What I mean by that, no cg animation. The effects are great, the story, the directing and the acting. Billy Zane should be playing more roles like these. It has an Indiana Jones feel to it. You'll smile through the film. BUY IT you will not regret it one bit. The Blu-ray, makes this movie more visually stunning.

I was pleased with this statue. It looks much heavier than it is, which is OK. It looks just like the picture that I ordered it from, and makes a very nice addition to a grouping of items that I have on a table. It also is a rather universal style and doesn't have to be used in just an Asian or Oriental design setting.

The Original Book of Horse Treats: Recipes You Can Make at Home for Your Horse! The Original Book of Horse Treats: Recipes You Can Make at Home for Your Horse!

This book is cute, and some of the recipes were good, but some of them anyone with an imagination could do. Like cutting up different colored apples & carots to make a "Tri-Color Apple & Carrot salad" page 23, doesnt take much imagiantion And although carving fancy designs into fruits and veggies is very very cute to look at,(page 63 Apple Roses) I don't think my horse appreciates it any more then when I just give it to him. I was actually just looking for recipes to make regualr horse type cookies such as Stud Muffins, just to cut down on the cost of treats as well as make them a bit healthier. If you only have one or 2 horses and a lot of spare time them this book is fun, but if you have a job, or/& kids and more then a stall or 2 to clean a day, the time it takes for some of these is just not realistic. If you want to get really detailed and impress your horse friends then buy the book, but if your more like me and just looking for cheaper healthier treats, save your money, google horse cookie recipes and go from there. *this book does however have some interesting suggestions for natural grooming tips*

I received this book as a gift several years ago and have purchased it as a gift several times, since. There are a lot of good recipes for treats and mashes as well as fly spray recipes, home-made fungus cures, etc. You'll refer to it, often.

This had some pretty good recipes in it (I recommend Miss Koko's Biscuits), but many were very time-consuming and hard to prepare, like stuffing apples. Also, I found it frustrating that about 70% of the recipes required horse-specific foods like hay cubes, etc. Of course, if you own a horse, this is not a problem. If you want a good, easy, homemade horse treat (besides the ones in the book) that horses love, try mixing: 1 1/2 grated carrots 1 1/2 grated apples 1/2 cup molasses 10 oz. rolled oats 4 oz. wheat flakes Cook for about one and a half hours at 325 degrees F.

I watched the author prepare a recipe on TV. On a program called Petsburgh USA hosted by animal planet :o) With the test horse there and watching her create these recipies I was amazed :o) Today I have boughten this book right here at Amazon.com..My horses will love these, aside from there regular treats of peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and ritz crackers :o)

This book is great you can finds so many ideas to pamper your horse with. Even though I don't own a horse (yet)all the horses in the barn love taste testing them. Its great for Christmas presents and most of all the recipes are easy and inexpensive, some of the recipes you can eat too!

Man O' War Man O' War

Reviews

This is a must read. I read Walter Farley's book on Man O' War as a child and it lite my imagination then, but this book goes much farther and fills in the history of the "Mostest Hoss" with his partentage included as well as the acomplishments of his offspring it makes for very, very, interesting reading. Highly recommend. Great work on history almost lost!! So fascinating to see the pedigree go back to the Godolphin Arabian as well as seeing the lineage being carried on. One must be a horse lover and a lover of history to appreciate.

This is my favorite race horse of all times. first book I read about him was from the library. I just love this book...very good read.

I absolutely loved this book! I had read Walter Farley's novel about Man o' War, and enjoyed that book too even though it was written for children. This book is historical fact, but is not at all dry. It is completely about the horse, not the jockey, not the owners (except where and when necessary for clarity, or how they influenced the horse). The authors made Man o' War truly come alive on the pages, and told us about his lineage without losing me. When I read in the Introduction "He was always a horse you referred to as 'who' instead of 'which'" I knew I was in the right book, and was going to love it. It did not let me down; the authors never for a minute consider Man o' War a 'which'--he is always 'who.' Royalty! This book is history made interesting. My parents were born about the time Man o' War was born, and my mother was raised in Saratoga Springs, NY where Mr. Riddle bought Man o' War. I am the owner of a great-great-great granddaughter of Man o' War, great-great granddaughter of War Admiral, Winspiration, and her foal, Dark Stormy Night. These facts explain my special affinity for this book, but those with no such connections, I believe, would still enjoy this book. All my horses are "who," never "which." This is a great book for horse lovers, especially thoroughbred horse lovers.

I grew up reading this book....I was the only one who checked it out of our local library for about 10 years, and I checked it out more than once. So being able to buy it finally was a real treat. Very engaging book that puts you inside the Man o'War story like no other.

I agree with the last reviewer...the book lacked life. Big Red had a big heart, a big career, and a big life. This book was informative but there was little life to it. Man O 'War deserves more. Maybe Laura Hillenbrand has another horse book in her. I hope so.

Average Rating:

Man O’ War, or "Big Red" as he was affectionately called, was the greatest racehorse that ever lived. In 1919 and 1920, he won 20 of 21 starts and set eight records, including three world records, while conceding as much as 30 pounds to his rivals and still beating them by large margins...
